Credit Karma website
« on: September 17, 2017, 07:47:43 AM »
In light of the recent Equifax hack that was disclosed recently, the local newspaper ran an article showing preventative measures before things started getting out of hand.  One of the actions that were listed was to roll in creditkarma.  I did a quick Google search for "credit karma reviews".  Most of the reviews leaned toward the unfavorable side.  Before I start putting out personal info, I would like to see if any other people has enlisted in credit karma and see what their experience was like (positive or negative).  Thanks in advance.

I've been using Credit Karma for a couple of years now, haven't had a problem yet.

I have a credit karma account, I've had it for years. I don't use it much anymore because it was mostly to track my credit score and that's more widely available for free now than it wad then.

I have an account as well and check in every so often. Nothing negative to say about them.

I also have nothing so strongly positive to say that I'd go find a review site and write a review. I suspect those with some kind of axe to grind against them are way more likely to go write a negative review than those who have a normal, positive interaction.

I've had an account there for many years.  They used to give a much more detailed drill down on my credit cards and track past balances, which was very helpful as I was paying things off.  Not quite so helpful now, but it is a good way to check what is showing up on the credit reports they track.  I've gotten I formation from them before the xeedit.cars told me.

Originally, we signed up to see our scores. Now though it is still super useful for making sure no one is stealing/using it credit info.

A while back we applied for a credit card in the store. While we were standing there waiting for the computer too approve the new account, we received emails from both credit karma and the company about our credit pull and new account- it's instantaneous monitoring, which makes me feel a lot safer.

Recently also someone used DH info to apply for a card, we were able to shut it down immediately before any further problems came of it.

Personally, love it. I think it's a great free service.

I've had an account with them for years. They seem like a perfectly fine, reputable service.

They make money from referral fees to credit cards that you may qualify for based on your credit score. You'll see them advertised prominently. Feel free to ignore all that and just look at your credit information if you like.

I've had a credit karma account for years with no problems. I actually rather like their score change estimator and other features. I'm not sure what's up with negative reviews. It never occurred to me to write a review for them. Looking at the reviews, it seems like people generally have problems with the marketing on how much some services cost, so just do your homework I suppose. And the other problem is that the reports aren't accurate. I've never had that problem despite comparing with my free annual reports. Some things change from report to report and I had a loan that only showed up on the one that credit karma doesn't deal with so that may have had some impact on those reviews.

I did not file taxes with them (I think that started last year) because I felt my tax situation was a little too complex for a first-year software. I see some negative reviews about that so I'm glad I didn't!

So, I guess credit karma is good and bad depending on what you want out of it. The PCMag and MoneyUnder30 reviews seem fairly positive. Those generally cater to a younger less financially complex crowd though.

Credit Karma is fine.  They are by far the least annoying free credit check service.

I had never seen my credit score, at 60 yrs old, and was curious.
I signed up for Credit Karma a little over two years ago.
Since then I checked my score once, haven't been back.
It was high 700s, I don't remeber the exact number, I guess
I'll check again. At this point we use very little credit so it's not
of great interesting.
Oops, my password is not saved by this ccomputer, I'll need
to check later.
