Couple sails the world... on a budget?
« on: September 23, 2015, 01:25:12 PM »
Have you guys seen this? I'm pretty jealous right now:

They seem pretty budget-conscious but I haven't taken a deep-dive and just stumbled across their blog and posts about them... what do you guys think? Is it sustainable? Have any of you sailed like this before? Seems pretty brave too... although, I do love fishing and being out on the water :)

It is a fantastic lifestyle but not always smooth sailing.

He is in the process of getting ready to sail away. It is something I am also thinking about, I just have to convince my wife...this will help, she loves her cat and her main concern is that you can't sail with a cat. Obviously, it's possible.

Its something I've thought about often and is less difficult than you might think.

The hardest part is finding the right spouse, and that's whats held me back.

Anyone can buy a boat, and on a budget they aren't even as expensive as a new car. Its a matter of research and careful choice. Here's a steel-hulled 'down-wind' (slow as f*ck) boat for $29K:http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1981/Tayana--2753403/Fernandina-Beach/FL/United-States#.VgMESstVhHw

Now you just have to learn to sail her, read the weather and become a navigator. Your time in port will cost you, but on the hook its free, and you can eat fresh fish for free forever.

I met a couple tha were sailing the world and they had a net off the back they called the Scotia-Scooper.  Their cat was named Scotia.  All seemed happy,,,
