Canucks! - Rogers Master Card - Worth getting?
« on: August 24, 2016, 10:00:41 AM »
$29 Annual Fee
1.75% cash back on purchases
4% cash back on out of country purchases

Redemption limited to spending at Rogers stores (Fido, Blue Jays, Texture, Shopping Channel)

Link to offer: https://rogersbank.com/en/card_details/rogers_platinum_mastercard?utm_medium=Email&utm_source=Cheetahmail&utm_campaign=August-Acquisition-Campaign-June-Creative_16-8043_Pre-Approved_Acquistion&utm_content=EN_Applynow_v2&Promocode=7410150059341300

The redemption rules kindof kills it for me since our rogers bill is only $30/month. Anyone else have any thoughts?

This is my main card at the moment, and I like it. I got it with a signup bonus of $105, but I think it's $35 right now.
Set it to autopay your Rogers bill and there are no annual fees.
You can also set your cashback to redeem automatically every month towards your Rogers bill.

If you charge more than $1700 to the card each month (>$30 in rewards a month), you can redeem for a statement credit once a year.

Have you considered the Tangerine card?  2% back on at least 2 categories, and 1% on everything else.  No limits to cash back, and if you have the cash back deposited into a Tangerine account, you get 3 categories at 2%.  No fees.

Rogers is going from no forex fee to 2.5%, so the out of country stuff is just weird now. I don't get the "trick" with it.

I've been very happy with the Chase Amazon VISA. 1% everywhere, 2% at Amazon.ca, no fee, no forex fee. No fuss, no muss.

(I do think big telco in Canada is somewhat evil, too, especially Rogers, so I may be biased :P)

Fido is offering a card now too.  Everyone wants in on the action.

What's the $30 a month for?

Internet. We weaned ourselves off everything else.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
