Bulk Rice Storage
« on: November 29, 2012, 05:40:45 PM »
I was at my local Sam's Club today checking prices on bulk rice.  25 lbs. Riceland Rice for $8.60.  Being a single guy I was wondering on thoughts for long term storage. Have we tried to store rice?  How long can it last.  Seems to be greatly varying opinions via Google.  I appreciate the input. Thanks Much!

White rice can store for a long time (decades) if it's in a sealed container with one of those oxygen-absorbing packets, and kept cool and dry. Even just kept in a bucket in the kitchen it's good for several years.

Brown rice doesn't last nearly as long - less than a year - because it can go rancid.

This page is pretty accurate.

I bought one of those exact same bags, it lasted me 9 months before I was done with it. Keep it in a dry place and sealed, should last virtually forever.

Thanks much for the insight.  I'm going to pick one up.
