bike repair
« on: February 22, 2014, 07:51:52 AM »
My partner and I would like to start riding bikes this spring.  She has one I can use that has been in storage for awhile.  I thought of taking it to a repair shop for a tune up, but I'd like to try doing that myself first, if possible.  I know nothing about bikes.  Can anyone recommend a book or website that I could use to learn how to do this?

best bet is to go to a college or community bicycle club or co-op.  They frequently have the tools you will need plus someone to give you instant feedback.
Three websites I like are www.peterwhitecycles.com and www.sheldonbrown.com and www.bicycletutor.com

Still, nothing beats hands-on training.  As for the books, just grab whatever is in the library
