Best solution for digital photo storage/archival?
« on: June 21, 2015, 08:53:46 PM »
I'm looking for a way to easily store all the digital photos of our kids, from a variety of sources ie photos taken by various smartphones (mine, my parents'), photos uploaded to my facebook, photos on two flickr accounts, and some photos/vid on my harddrive.

Any suggestions, best practices?

Pick one cloud service and one backup HD, store on both.

I like flickr, as you get a free 1TB, which should be way more than enough.  Download everything to the hard drive, compiling from your different sources, and then use a mass uploader to upload all of them to flickr (or whatever service you choose, Google Photos is a fine choice, as are a few others).

Google Photos has had a recent major upgrade and it is terrific. Also, they offer unlimited free storage if you select their standard size backup, as opposed to original size, but they expanded standard to cover up to 16MP resolution, more than enough for most uses.
