Near the beach down the florida east coast is usually older houses but then of course you get the convenience of being near the beach. The further you go west of I95 the newer the places get but the worse the commute...and no downtown...also no soul :)

It really matters your age...etc. I like clematis street area but its a younger/club type crowd. Delray beach is great as well...parts of Lake Worth have changed tremendously over the past decade. If you live east of dixie you probably wont find a cheap place but usually the neighborhoods are much nicer.

You can be a mustachian anywhere.

But if your looking to retire I prefer the west coast of florida...its what the east coast was 20 years ago...pretty undiscovered.

Thank you for the advice. I was looking at places like Lake Worth, Wellington and Jupiter.

Wellington is too far west (unless you dont care about being 30 minute from the beach).

Jupiter is really nice but a little new/snooty (tons of gated communities).

Lake worth has had a revival but there still are neighborhoods that are not really safe at night.

Someone at work mentioned Vero Beach as a cheaper place to live. I can't vouch for the safety or surroundings since I haven't spent much time there.

The more expensive areas in South Florida are Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Once you start getting north of there it gets cheaper.

You can also check out the Melbourne/Cocoa Beach area if you want to stay on the east coast.

Bike riding along A1A along the east coast is nice. I've done some rides starting in Jupiter and going north.
