That's way to much. If you are paying monthly, AirVPN and Mullvad are good choices. I believe AirVPN also has discounts for longer terms. NordVPN is very cheap when paying for years at a time. I have been pretty happy with Nord. Off the top of my head other reputable ones that are cheap are Private Internet Access and TorGuard.

Kinda depends on your needs on which you would pick. Gotta think about things like needing port forwarding (static or dynamic), trying to hide traffic from your ISP or just when in a coffee shop, etc.

I have Torguard because one of their regular specials is often posted on one of the super deals sites I used to visit.  If you wait for one of their regular holiday specials, you can get it for $30 for a year, and it renews for that same price each year.  I've had it for years - no complaints.

Thanks for the help.  Ended up going with Torguard for 6 months for $14.99 -- I can cancel any time in next 7 days to get refunded if I don't like the service, but I imagine I will based on what was said.

Thanks again.

SO much faster than the other one I had joined and only $2.50 per month vs. $12.99  :)

If I subscribe to a VPN, can I put it on ALL my devices? (laptop and phone) Can I put it on my family's devices?

That depends on the VPN. I run it on 3 computers and 2 phones.

Outline.

You spin up your own instance to host it (they support DigitalOcean, which is $5/mo for 1TB of transfer on instances), and you can create as many keys to share as you want.

I use IPVanish which allows up to (I think) 5 devices, but I only use three.  It comes in at 4.87$ a month when buying for a whole year.  Very rarely will they have a sale.

Fantastic service from them, never had a problem and always faster than my internet.  I get 100mb/s at home and through the VPN is usually 93mb/s or so.  Upload speeds practically unchanged.

Glad TorGuard worked out well for you.  I renewed for yet another year back in November.

To get something for free is great, but I guess when we talk about security it is better to pay a few dollars and feel safe. I don't think that the price should be the main point when you choose a vpn provider. For example, I started using nordvpn free trial, I liked the app, speed and that double encryption thing, and after that free trial ended I bought a 3 year subscription. By the way, a lot of vpns offers discount codes, this one is for Christmas deal, but as I can see it still works: nordvpn.org/VPNHOLIDAY

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
