Hi all,
I'm relocating from Canada to California (Bay Area). I'm 29 and have a family of 4. Right now I use a Canadian online bank, and use Questrade, an online discount brokerage. We keep a moderate checking/savings balance for unforeseen circumstances. With the brokerage, our portfolio consists of 4-6 ETFs which are buy-and-hold, with periodic purchases (~monthly).
What are my best options to replace those two in the US? E*Trade and Ally have both bank + brokerage which would be nice, since it's then easier to fund investment accounts. Vanguard / Schwabb have commission-free on their own ETFs, but I don't know how they fare as general brokerages. Capital One 360 has decent interest rates, a polished interface, the backing of a larger bank, and no monthly fees.
Things that are important to me are:
- Banking: low fees, free e-transfers, nearby free ATM withdrawals, nice android app
- Brokerage: easy funding (bill payments or direct transfers), a decent trading platform both web and mobile, low fees, commission-free ETFs
Thanks! K
