Anyone have experience with swapalease.com?
« on: June 12, 2014, 11:16:12 AM »
A Mustachian here on the Forum gave me a tip to check out swapalease.com to try to get out of my car lease. I went on their site, filled out a short form, and a salesperson called yesterday. She said she *knows* my lease could be swapped because of my low monthly ($258) and time remaining (10 months), and the only cost to me would be about $200 in advertising. She said there's a 30-45 day turnaround. Sounds too easy to be true. Anyone out there have experience with them or something similar? I appreciate any advice.

This company, well, don't waste your money.  I mean, all it does is advertise that you have a leased car that you want to get out of.  It doesn't promote its site very well, for one.  Also they are supposed to notify you via email when someone has an interest in your vehicle.  Well, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.  So when I complained about five missed opportunities, they told me it's my responsibility to log on to see if I have interested parties.  That was NEVER told to me so I lost some good leads.  They do claim to help you with the process, but not true.  It's between you and your lease company to get the transfer going.

I mean, if I have to constantly log in to see if someone is interested in my car, if I have to do all the work with my lease company, then what are they supposed to do with the money that I paid them?  And the prices are high but then they act they like they're giving you a discount which is BS.

I really don't think the service is worth it, especially when they don't promote the website and they can't even get it right and notify you when someone is interested in your vehicle.  I wouldn't have even written a complaint if they at least did what they promised and notified me when I had an interested party.  The closest that I came to getting out of my lease was a guy that found me on Craigslist, because I promote myself on there.  The only reason he didn't take it was because of his wife.  I would love a refund but I won't bother trying.  I actually had an email fight back and forth with the salesperson who sold me the ad.  Just another mark against them, you don't argue with your clients, which basically was over the fact that I didn't get notified of leads and possibly lost out on getting out of my lease.

Please DON'T waste your money.  Try Craigslist first.

Complaint: The site states they will assist the customer in the transfer of their leased vehicle. The only thing they did was put up pictures. They offered no assistance in the actual transfer with the credit agency and basically left me on my own in the process.

Complaint: I contacted Swapalease yesterday to find out information about their service as, I have a leased vehicle that I am looking to get out of. The salesman ******, was very fast talking and told me all of the "wonderful things about Swapalease. He said they had a great relationship with my car manufacturer and was sure it would sell within 30 days. He also said that they handle all the paperwork, that really all I had to do was show the car, and deliver it to the buyer and if the buyer was out of state the buyer would have to have at his expense, the car shipped to him... It was a strong sales pitch and ****** told me that he could get me a discount if I signed up right away. I told him that I wanted to think about it and he said that this was a one time offer and he would not be able to give me the discount unless, I signed up right away. When I got home, I read the paperwork that he emailed me, and I have to do everything. The only thing that Swapalease does is advertise. I have not signed contracts and have asked for a full refund as, it has been less than 24 hours since I was pressured into this deal. ****** said very strongly that a refund was NOT GOING TO HAPPEN & that they have a NO REFUND POLICY. ****** was very rude when I spoke with him this morning, had a threatening tone and has since sent me emails saying that I lying about everything.

There are dozens more just like that.
Basically you'd be better off posting it on craigslist, which is free and gets a lot more traffic, as this "swapalease" place doesn't actually do anything for you.

@taekvideo - Thank you, thank you for your awesome sleuthing here and for saving me a headache and face-punch for falling for it. My next stop is good ol' Craigslist. Best to you, and thank you again!
