TV for Dogs
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:26:04 AM »
This morning as I awoke to my radio alarm, I heard Steven Inskeep (NPR) tell the world that DirectTV now offers a TV channel for dogs.  So now when Fido is left home alone all day the TV can stay on (kilowatts!) entertaining him.

Of course, that channel requires not only that you subscribe to DirectTV (at least $40/ mo) but that you also subscribe to that channel for an extra fee (whattaya think, $9.99 at least).  And, of course, that you have at least one dog (love my dogs, but they ain't cheap).

Seriously??!

I heard of this. I wouldn't pay for it even if I had DirecTV, not just because I'm not paying a monthly fee for my dogs to watch TV, but also because the channel itself would drive my dogs nuts. It shows a bunch of dogs and other animals. My dogs bark at dogs on TV. They think TV dogs are real and are invading their home. This wouldn't relax my dogs--it would get them all riled up.

That said, I did used to play piano music for my first dog when I left her home alone for the first few weeks after I got her. She was a puppy and didn't like when I left. The music seemed to help. I stopped when I was sure she was fine home alone.

I have a friend from college who leaves the TV on Animal Planet for her dogs when she goes to work. I don't dare ask if this is channel for dogs is in the works. I probably won't be able to hide my disgust when I hear the answer come out of her mouth.

Well, it kind of fits.... TV has gone to the dogs.

I have paid an exuberant amount of money for my dogs TV service. It is called a bed, a couch, and a window.
