Pearls Before Swine
« on: July 07, 2014, 02:25:05 PM »
Pearls Before Swine is one of my favorite comic strips. This one from a few days back seemed to be the perfect testimony to the thought patterns of an antimustachian.

This thread is for comic relief right? :)

Perfect timing for me--thank you. I was absolutely coveting this $40 doormat from Crate and Barrel in the shape of a hedgehog. Cutest thing I've seen in a long time. Now why, you may ask,  must I have a hedgehog-shaped doormat? Because I want it, that's why. Then I read the above comic. Will a hedgehog-shaped doormat make me happy? Do I need a better, more expensive doormat? No, no, no and no. Sanity is re-gained.

On the other hand you could probably make a hedgehog-shaped doormat! Because, I'm being honest, that sounds super awesome.

Buy a rectangular doormat and a carpet knife.

+1

I don't have a doormat, but a hedgehog doormat sounds amazing.

Maybe I'll nab a doormat during my next neighbor's move-out and cut it into a honey badger.  When people move out of my apartment building, they frequently discard a ton of stuff.  I've acquired a few side tables, folding chairs, and other items that I've donated to the Salvation Army.

Great timing.  I actually have my Amazon cart on another browser tab.  I'm going to leave it and go ride to drink a beer.

Hmmmm…..it could be a great idea for a side gig:  Lizzzi's Custom-made Doormats.  You could have a hedgehog, a honey badger, a skunk, a curled-up rattlesnake…or shapes like stars, cupcakes, or the Starship Enterprise. Too bad I don't really feel like it. Mwa-ha-ha.

I moved into my new home last week, and hubby reminded me that we need a doormat.  I would love those wrought iron ones, but no way I'm paying that much!  Costco is having a sale on it's doormat starting on Thursday, but it's not easy to clean when pet fur is involved.

I scored big at Ross yesterday.  I was looking for a (storage) basket, and wandered to the rug section  I had to dig a bit, but I found two rubber mats, that are scrolled to look like Wrought Iron.  The kicker was that they were on clearance too!  $6 each, I picked the last two they had, so now my front & back door have doormats.  :)

We still have cable because my husband can't part with ESPN.  Baby steps.
We largely have Dish because my wife is addicted to HGTV and one of her ballet shows isn't on OTA broadcast TV. :/

You can hunt a bunch of hedgehogs and make a carpet out of their fur (quills?). Survival skills! Probably not the softest carpet though...

So many humorous replies--I love it. But I can reveal here  that I am at last completely over any doormat cravings or hedgehog fetishes. Nope--couldn't care less. I have an old rectangular coir doormat with a black stripe around it, left by the previous home owner. It is in good shape due to its sheltered location on the front stoop, and I'm sure it will serve us well for a number of years . Yes, it is boring and uncreative. But it is great for wiping feet , and I am going to put my emotional energies into something else--like enjoying Pearls Before Swine on go comics.com, or watching Star Trek marathons on  Amazon Prime instant video.
