YOUTUBE consumerism

So this is a thing that us parents should be concerned about.

This girl has 5 million subscribers to her youtube channel where she talks about expensive hand bags and jewelry.
Sounds like her audience is mostly tweens.  My daughter is five and sees very few commercials or advertisements.  She is not real interested in the internet yet, but I'm sure it's only a few years away.

"Does she act? Dance? You're missing the point. Ms Mota is the undisputed star of a YouTube sub-genre known as the "haul video", which is basically someone sitting on their bed showing you a load of stuff they just bought."

Hilarious.  I'm always torn in the AWOSAC because we rely on these people to increase our corporate profits!

I'd assume that someone with over 8 million followers is not actually purchasing everything she's reviewing.  For instance, I know for a fact that my company has given merchandise to "celebrities" for free and paid them to tweet about it.

Is there any way  the  kids could be steered to the drugstore coupon haul  videos instead where the couponers  get loads of stuff for free? I used to be obsessed with freebies at that age.

Just educate your kids on how the world really works, as Eric pointed out.

Some mustachian should sit on their bed and make a haul video for all the vtsax and vbmfx they just bought. It would be hysterical!

I bet people would watch this.  People watch other people play video games on youtube, etc.  I bet you could create a channel where you record yourself making your weekly/whatever stock purchases and you'd get some subscribers.  Hell, I might watch that.  Send me the link!
