My headphone problem went away completely when I stopped reading head-fi. Haven't bought a pair since. Just a thought ;-)
My last pair was 6 years ago. Time has come to add a new flagship I think - maybe more like upper mid-range as flagships are $3k+ these days.

You can stop reading head-fi but I doubt your headphone problems can go away "completely" ;)

Guess it depends on what you consider a problem. :-) Maybe if one of my favorite pairs break and I have to replace it, and can't find the exact model replacement, I would slide down that slippery slope again. But I don't really use them much any more since I moved to NYC. Who needs to sit at home listening to reproduced music when there is an endless supply of great, inexpensive live music available?

Lost $350 at the casino yesterday. I really enjoy playing blackjack and I think it's something I'll always enjoy doing. Unfortunately it's a casino so sometimes I lose. Nothing worse than walking out with the feeling that you just threw away what some people pay for a month's rent. I never play with money I can't "afford" to lose, but still it's the height of stupidity to throw away that much cash that could be saved for other purposes. I'm currently saving for my second rental property, so that's what I'm thinking about now. How that cash could have gone towards the new building.

I'm sure I will get flamed big time for even going to a casino, but it feels good to call myself out for being an idiot!

I just paid $1300 in airfare (3 RT tickets) to visit family then remembering, days after purchase, that I had 250k+ miles in my account.

Not me, and not my wife (thank fortune), but one of her coworkers bought

these.

For a pool party.

I drove 10 minutes to go #2 in a store because the only other option was a port-o-potty surrounded by people sitting quietly in chairs. Weird situation, but let's just say I would have been the loudest thing around.

I don't really blame myself I just thought it was funny, and a little wasteful, but I saved some face.

I bought a round-trip ferry ticket to get to onto an island for a week-long event. On the way back, I handed the ticket to the toll both guy and started off to get in line, when he said, "Hold it there, this ticket is expired!" Baffled because the tickets are valid for three months, and also a little flustered because people get really impatient in these lines and I was holding things up, I just grabbed my wallet and shelled out the $10.80 for the one-way fare. Moments later I remembered I'd put the ticket in my coin pouch instead of in the cubbyhole over the CD player, so I must have forgotten about the one in the cubbyhole too, letting it expire. Or maybe I'd used it at a booth where I could scan it myself and had neglected to throw it away. Damn, that bugs me, not knowing!!! And I've got a one-way ticket that I'll probably have no need for before it expires! Guess I'll try to sell it work for a discount or something.

Awww ... but least you still have the miles and can use them another time.  We spent $1699 on two intercontinental tix for next February during a "seat sale" and then watched the price for the exact same flights, on the exact same dates, go up to $1850 and then down to $1472.  I've never seen them EVER go that low.  Pisses me off when an airline diddles with the price so much over a period of three weeks.

And to add insult to injury, they've instituted a new policy whereby it costs extra to select the seats.  We'll take our chances and I'll try to snag 'em online 30 hours before boarding when we check in.

Maybe $1300 isn't so bad, because I also paid extra to select seats.  I'm traveling with a baby in a car seat, another adult, and an infant in my lap, so guaranteeing seats together was essential.

I bought a new bike (see http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/welcome-to-the-forum/should-i-buy-a-new-bike-61819/) that I did not really need and could've gotten cheaper if I'd had the patience to watch Craigslist.

However, I love it! One reason I wanted it was to run errands, as well as just feel more stable than I did on my road bike, thus hopefully encouraging me to ride more. I rode it on my first errand yesterday (3 miles round trip to the store, but did some extra tooling around for a total of 12 miles). The ground was wet from rain and there were wet leaves and sticks everywhere. It would've been nerve wracking for me on my road bike, but it was a breeze on my new bike! Did I mention that I love it?!

So I don't feel too bad about spending the money, and hubby is happy because he's off the hook for a birthday present :)

Enjoy ... must be fun!  Hope you have a really, really good lock.  I'd even lock it up inside the garage or wherever you keep it.

Thanks! I keep it in the garage, but I like the idea of also locking it up in there. Not a lot of theft in our area, but better safe than sorry!

I'm hiring someone to paint my house, rather than doing it myself. Partially because it requires special preparation to properly handle the aluminum siding, but mostly because it's a three story house and I'm the sort of guy who gets a bit flustered by the height when I wear especially thick socks.

I had to contract out the painting of the exterior of the house because of the same reason. I am also afraid of heights. Besides, there was a lot of damaged wood and crumbling stucco that I didn't know how to repair. It was a lot of work. I do all the interior paint jobs though.

I just dropped $120 on having fancy chocolate delivered to someone for a spur-of-the-moment gift. I'm hoping a stupid luxury purchase is considered less bad when you substitute "they" for "I" in the phrase "oh, why not, I deserve it!"

On the plus side, I have thus far resisted that $200 Kickstarter reward that looks really cool but is totally useless.

Ah Kickstarter! I have to stay away! I've bought an emergency kit, a torch, (very cool) pants etc etc, all high quality purchases but I could have done without them!

So we came into a little bit of money recently, nothing life changing but a decent chunk of unexpected change.  We also had our 9 year anniversary.  My wife has wanted a certain type of designer purse for the longest time, and due to some expected lifestyle changes next year, it was kind of a “now or never” (or really, now or 5 years from now) situation.  So I told her in lieu of a gift, we’d go out and she could get the purse she’s been wanting.  We do, and I spend a heart-stopping amount on it.  We get it home and she’s fawning over it, etc, and I say “let me smell it.”  I have a thing for nice leather, I love the smell.  So I smell it and…nothing.  I look at her puzzled and she says “oh, it’s not leather.  It’s canvas.  So that way it’s, you know, waterproof and stuff.”  Absolutely amazing.  I spent that kind of money for a canvas bag basically because of the logo it’s imprinted with.  I’m simultaneously disgusted with them for selling something worth so little for so much, while being awed at their ability to generate incredible demand for something so pedestrian.  I don’t get it.  At least we’ll pay the CC bill for it at the end of the month; who knows how many of them are “financed” at absurd terms.

Yesterday I was too lazy to make brownies. Today at work I was SO HUNGRY I bought a candy bar for $1.25. A box of brownie mix costs $1.25. Goes quite a bit farther, too.

Throw a half bag of Heath Bar Bits on top before baking..........OMG, orgasmic!  Trust me on this!  ;-)

Made an error in my spreadsheet back in April that I just found today... typed a deposit of 2,000$ instead of the true 3,000$. Which means that in June, when I put another 3,5000$ into my TFSA, I ended up going 1k over the yearly limit.

Shit.

It's going to cost me for every month since then that my TFSA has been over the limit.

I'm removing the 1K now, but still, I'm an idiot.

You just gotta bleed a little from time to time to keep life going...I too have bought certain luxury bags in the past - but in my defense I was in Paris and it seemed like the "right thing to do"...

I realized I own dozens of shirts, several of which in silk. Which would be ok-ish, if only I wore them, but I very rarely do, and my lifestyle doesn't call for silk shirts.

I should stop shopping for a fantasy version of my life...

I substitute taught this morning, then ran an errand across town, then headed to a library shift.

Upon arriving at The Library Way Out in the Middle of Nowhere, I realized I had accidentally picked up the regular teacher's keys, which look remarkably like mind. Had to drive back 25 minutes in the other direction, return keys, and drive back, missing 45 minutes of pay and using all kinds of gas. Sigh.

I started a new job about 3 miles away from my house (and yes it's been awesome!).  I've been driving to work as I still need to acquire a bike.

While my drive home is short I do have to cross a few busy roads with really long lights.  Sometime last week as I left work I passed a guy on a bike.

I was almost home, but I was waiting at one of the long lights and sure enough I was passed by the same guy on a bike.

I hang my head in shame.

Been thinking for a few days about how much soap I have, and how I need to gather it all in a single place and how silly it is that I have to find a way to organize how many soaps I have.
Well, guess what I bought today on a whim?

The best part: it was 9,99$, and I had read "A Millionaire is Made Ten Bucks at a Time" right before going out of home... dammit.

But if you're able to keep track of all of your soap and don't have to buy soap unnecessarily, it'll work out.  :)

It was both, that's why my willpower failed me!
On the plus side, after writing that post I went to organize my bathroom and noticed soaps were considerably down since last time I checked, as DH would much rather smell like lavander than enter a drugstore to buy himself soap, and my MIL didn't send any soap lately in her care packages. So it was ok in the end :-)

I've taken a cab home from work four times this month to the tune of $9 a pop, once all the fees and tip are added in. I never plan to but I've been working wicked long hours this month. I worked 11 hours straight today and just about cried when I got to the bus stop and realized that the next bus that would get me even close to home was nearly a half hour wait. The one I normally take is rush hour only and had already stopped running by the time I got out.

I should probably just have walked but it's hard to talk yourself into that when it's cold and dark and you're exhausted.

Such an amusing thread! This is a bit of an oldie as I just discovered this thread. Last Halloween, I went to a Halloween party and Mr.Tuxedo cat and I DIYed our costumes. The total cost was $8. Very good!

However, on the way to the party, I decided to check out the firework store and bought $80 of fireworks. And they sucked and were not worth the money.

Face punch away!

I haven't bought it yet, but I am seriously tempted by the $50 Instant Pot on Amazon today. But my slow cooker works just fine. I do not need the Instant Pot. Someone tell me reasons not to buy it. I already have something in my Amazon cart that I was going to buy anyway but I haven't gone to check out yet in case there the item went on sale either over the weekend or today, and for some reason that's making my brain say "Well if you've already got that in your cart, might as well add one more thing..." which is terrible logic.

*Looks at Instant Pot* *Looks at beautiful, rich chicken stock I made in under 2 hours last night*  Umm... don't buy it. It sucks.

I need someone to slap me until I stop thinking about buying a discounted Roomba.

Well, it's probably too late, but I bought two 6qt. IP's on Amazon Prime Day.  Adore them to pieces. If you cook virtually every meal at home, it will pay for itself in no time.

Spent $814 to fix a starter on my 10 yo 141k mile Honda today, emergency as it was a total failure; it wasn't an intermittent problem. If I had bought the parts, it would have cost me about $435 (same parts as the auto shop) plus time. But I don't have time this weekend with a lot of family commitments. My car is the family car.

I met up with an old colleague for coffee and bought Peppermint Mocha at Starbucks. It was $5. That's insane and I hate myself.

These last two really hit home: I have an 8-year old Toyota Camry that stubbornly keeps flashing the "tire" light even though I've checked all four tires, worried that I'll have to buy a sensor to pass my annual inspection.

And the Starbucks thing...I've cut way back, but I just won a wager with my spouse that gives me the right to pump my Starbucks purchases wayyyy up.

TPMS light?

My Lexus (Toyota) RX350 tire light will come on if the spare tire is low on air. Mine is a 2007, so only 8 years old - try adding air to the spare tire and see if it helps.

Forgot my lunch.

Made it, put it next to bag, then felt seriously ill while I was finishing getting ready and thought about not going to work so I put it back in the fridge for a while.

Ended up coming to work aaaaaand no lunch.

Last month I did my math too early and forgot some credit card charges when I paid it off 'completely'. I was off by 200$ (the stuff charged on last day of the financial cicle) and got hit by 45$ of interests, for the first time since I own a credit card. So fucking pissed right now.
