The couple are fighting over Jocelyn’s desire to upgrade her 5-year-old Mercedes e350 to a $60,000 model. The vehicle has been having problems with the transmission, which she says will be costly to fix. Jocelyn owns the vehicle, making a monthly payment of $480 with $8,000 remaining on the car loan. The Kelly Blue Book resale value of the car is $6,000.

Jocelyn is insistent on the German brand because she said it “adds a touch of class and quality” to her business, which involves her shuttling costumed characters around the city to birthday parties and other events. “There’s no reason why I should not get anything comparable to what I’m driving,” she says.

But Derek, who himself drives a minivan, doesn’t see it that way. While D&J Costumes normally brings in $150,000 in revenue each year, that number shrunk to $10,000 in 2020 as the pandemic put a halt to in-person gatherings and parties. Because of this, he wants her to buy a car in the $20,000 range, like a Dodge Caravan.

...

He calls the disappearance of their revenue “brutal,” and says that it’s important that “America can see the effect that Covid had on businesses like yours.”

But O’Leary says he understand’s [sic] Jocelyn’s desire to enjoy the car that she spends hours in every day, and comes up with a compromise for the couple.

Instead of buying a new Mercedes, Jocelyn will go to the Mercedes dealership and negotiate a three-year lease at her same monthly rate of $480.

And here I thought CNBC wanted people to get rich.

God he's embarrassing.

I'm so glad Canada was like "no thanks" when he tried to become our leader.

How is a five year old e350 only worth $6,000?

That caught my eye too.  No way that's worth the same as my 15 year old minivan.

Probably because she drives it all day, every day and so it’s got abnormally high miles, add in unmentioned stuff like having been in an accident or two and some mechanical problems/overdue maintenance and $6k might be about right.

As crazy as that sounds it might be the case. Certain luxury cars cost so much to maintain after they are out of warranty that they become worthless.

The E350 isn't mentioned but some of the BMW are close to those numbers.

He's not ours, his American parents were just in Calgary for work for a while.

High mileage and needing a transmission? I'd believe it.

Well, not anymore. He formally renounced his citizenship and ceased being Canadian on May 14, 2014.

So she basically runs an Uber for people in costumes? And needs a $60K car in order to do so. Got it.

"stink"?  Taint?  Association?  Odd choice of words.  Unless his supporters think anything other than 100% American upbringing stinks?  Glad that Kamala Harris's time in Montreal during high school wasn't held against her.

The main thing to remember is that when it suits me, Canada stinks! And when I'm planning a vacation, I hope to go there soon.

Makes perfect sense for her to get a clown car.
