Austrailian Blows 1.7M in 2 Years of Partying

TL;DR...24-year-old notices that nothing happens when he overdrafts money from his bank account. He tests this further and further, paying off his house and partying on the beach. He basically spends all of it on partying, women, cars, drugs, and trips to Thailand for more of the same. This goes on for 2 years until the bank finally notices and he's convicted. Supposedly a glitch in the system occurred; if I understood correctly, a human employee should have blocked the transactions, but never raised a red flag. The guy is sentenced to prison for 4.5 years. After studying up on criminal law and fraud, he successfully wins his release by claiming that although immoral, he did not deceive or defraud the bank of money and the bank permitted him to take the $. The bank declines to comment but tells the guy that they will not be coming after him for the $. Now he wants to be a criminal lawyer.

Interesting. I remember reading about this at an earlier stage. The bank I'm sure has modified their practices, and if they haven't they deserve what they get.
